For over 16 years I’ve experienced the wild and demanding lifestyle that confronts a documentary filmmaker. I have an unusual background working both as a filmmaker and a film distributor. From 2016-19, I directed the educational distribution of over 200 documentaries at Collective Eye Films. Prior, I directed and produced two award-winning films– SEED: The Untold Story (2016, PBS Independent Lens, Emmy Nominee) and QUEEN OF THE SUN: What Are the Bees Telling Us? (2010, Netflix, NYTimes Critics’ Pick). These films reached audiences of millions and held thousands of screenings, deploying multi-country campaigns with audience-tailored outreach that we learned trial by fire. As an independent consultant, I now help navigate the road to success for first-time and seasoned documentary directors alike. Whether fundraising, production, post or distribution and outreach, I love working hand-in-hand to develop a useful toolbox and helpful roadmap to brighten your film’s future. Outside of consulting, I live and work in beautiful Portland, Oregon with my wife Megan, our children Amelia, Lucy and Ezra, and our beloved cat Bela.
